into a club is a low-pressure crossover fic challenge based on the long-running multifandom a ficathon goes into a bar. you may remember intoaclub from our 2013 round, but like a kpop group you swore was disbanded, we are having a comeback.into a club participants will write a fic centered around an idol of their choosing and idol randomly selected from another group of their choosing. one idol goes into a club and meets...whoever fate decides.

how it works:

You pick an idol. Any kpop idol of your choosing.Then, you pick up 2-4 groups or solo artists that you feel comfortable writing, excluding any group or sub-unit your chosen idol belongs to. Then, the mods will randomly select one idol from your list of groups/artists to meet your chosen idol in a club*, and you write a fic about them.For example:
I pick LOONA Heejin as my idol. I am comfortable writing IU, Astro, and NCT Dream. The mods work their random number generator magic and I am assigned Astro Sanha as my second idol. I now set forth to write a fic where Heejin and Sanha meet in a club*.

fic requirements:

Your fic must be at least 500 words and centered on the idol you’ve chosen and the idol that was randomly chosen for you.

posting information:

During posting, works will be anonymous until all works have been posted. There will be a brief delay before reveals to ensure that later fics get to enjoy some of the anon period. Exact dates will depend on the number of participants and any extensions needed.As such, we encourage you to keep your assigned pairing a secret until reveals!

What club? Where? What if they’ve never met? What about COVID restrictions? What if my idol is too young to get into a club?
For the purpose of this event, the club is a metaphor. Sure, it can be a club, but it can also be any public or semi-public place where people may meet or congregate. An afterparty, a bar, backstage at MAMA, a medieval tavern, an ex’s wedding, a frat party—anything goes, as long as your characters meet there. Since this is kpop, we'll accept situations like music show waiting rooms, award show audiences, etc.What if my idol is underage? What kind of fic can I write?
Your fic does not need to center around a romantic relationship. You are free to write gen, f/f, f/m, m/m and any type of relationship you want, whether that’s old lovers, mortal enemies, long lost friends, new neighbors, government-assigned soulmates, or any other kind of connection between your two characters. How your characters get to the same location and whether it’s canon compliant, AU, or anything else is up to you.You can include other group members or idols in your fic, but your assigned idols must be the focal point of the work.What about sub-units?
A subunit from the same group your chosen idol belongs to, whether they’re a member of that unit or not, cannot be one of your 2-4 options. However, you can include a sub-unit on the list of idols the mods will randomly select from.For example:

Unless you specify otherwise, the current (or, in the case of a disbanded group, the most recent) lineup will be used to randomly select your second idol. If you want a specific iteration, please indicate this in your signup (e.g. “Monsta X OT7”). This only applies to groups that have experienced lineup changes; you cannot exclude any members from an existing group.What about NCT?
If your chosen idol is a member of any NCT subunit, you cannot include another NCT unit in your signup. For anyone in kpop who is not yet a member of NCT, you can only include one NCT unit. If you sign up with NCT and do not specify a unit, we will assume you mean the current full lineup and you could potentially be assigned any of those 23 members.Can I exclude this problematic member? What if I don’t want to write the idol I was assigned?
Sorry, if you include a group in those you’re willing to write for, any member is fair game for the random selection. Mods will not reassign if you are unhappy with your randomly selected idol.
